Bone regeneration
Conditions knows as edentulism of the jaws and/or periodontal disease frequently lead to teeth and bone loss. Bone loss, in turn, can compromise a series of dental procedures, implantology and prosthetics being the main ones. However, even in cases of serious bone loss not everything is lost! State-of-the art techniques of lost bone regeneration are known under the name of guided bone regeneration or GBR. Guided bone regeneration comprises a set of dental surgical procedures that use biologically active materials (barrier membranes) in order to initiate and direct the growth of new jaw bone. In this way sites that are characterized by insufficient volumes or dimensions of bone – thus having seriously compromised functional, prosthetic and/or aesthetics restoration potential – are regenerated, and can be used for successful dental treatments.
