Rijeka and Opatija
Rijeka, Kvarner region’s capital and the location of dental studio Vukanović, is the ideal starting point for discovering the region’s natural beauties and tourist attractions. Already in Rijeka, you will find the first tourist sites like Trsat – with a medieval castle from which the view of the Kvarner Bay is unique and the Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat, with its Baroque church.
Rijeka now flaunts its nineteenth-century Austro-Hungarian appearance, and if this town was the port and commercial centre of the Empire, in Opatija there was its leisure centre, which still presents itself as such – the numerous villas of the aristocracy and the first European hotels are the curtain that accompanies those who choose Opatija as the destination for their holidays.
Vinodol, Crikvenica and Novi
Along the coast, about thirty kilometres to the south from Rijeka, is located the second tourist destination in the region, Crikvenica. in 2008. Crikvenica celebrated 120 years of tourism, confirming itself as an important centre for medical tourism, sports tourism and thanks to its many beaches, as a favourite holiday destination for families.
The hinterland of Crikvenica, however, is a favourite destination for farm holidays lovers and those who like an active vacation. For unique panoramas of the north-eastern Adriatic, climb the slopes of the nearby hills to the numerous vantage points, the so-called “Eyes of the Vinodol”. Finally, relax visiting Novi Vinodolski, one of the cities of the medieval counts Frangipani, today a small seaside town with charming squares and numerous restaurants.
The islands of Kvarner
Whether you choose the closest Krk, the wildest Cres , the greenest Losinj or the rocky Rab, the opportunity to visit historical and cultural landscape on the Kvarner islands are endless. You can immerse yourself in ancient and medieval history in the towns of Omisalj, Krk or Baska on the island of Krk, in Cres, Osor and Losinj on the islands Cres and Losinj, and in Rab on the homonymous island. In the summer in all the towns historic medieval fairs, maritime festivals or historical evocations are organized, all with traditional food and wine.
Have fun finding your favourite bay, discover the medieval Glagolitic alphabet, enjoy the fresh seafood accompanied by local wines or take a boat ride – Kvarner islands offer that and much more.
The mountains of the Gorski Kotar
A few kilometres from the sea begins the rise that, after about twenty minutes, will take you to the most wooded area of Croatia, the Gorski Kotar. Between valleys, hills and real peaks, stretches a green region, rich in rivers, lakes, springs and canyons. In Gorski Kotar is also located the Risnjak national park, a natural reservation on 3014 hectares, that collects the most picturesque areas of this mountain region.
Gorski Kotar is also famous for its gastronomy – the choice becomes difficult between wild game, mushrooms, asparagus and freshwater fish, but for desserts, a variety of wild berries cakes are a must.

In Rijeka, you will find four hotels (Bonavia, Continental, Neboder and Jadran) ranging between three and four stars, all located in the city centre or nearby. For those who prefer to stay in luxurious hotels or villas or enjoy a breathtaking sight, we recommend the nearby town of Opatija.
